Let The Galaxy Burn Part 1 Chaos Terminators
Warhammer 40K - Let The Galaxy Burn…
Part 1 - Black Legion Terminators
From our previous posts you will have seen that Gildoren has Necron, Imperial Knights and Adeptus Mechanicus armies. While the Fat Dwarf boasts an remarkably large Imperial Guard Mechanised army. So it was only to be expected that I decided to take the role of the heretics.. or as I believe; those freedom fighters trying to shirk off Imperial Rule.
(Someone has to be a bad guy…. And I’m just the hobbit to do it. Tabletop-Hobbit)
After coming to terms with my heretical tendencies, and having great plans of doing a Death Guard army, then being blown away by the colour scheme of the Alpha legion I really couldn’t make my mind up which of the 9 legions I should take.
I bought the Chaos Space Marine codex to have a nosy hoping something would jump out at me, surprisingly I was really drawn to the Black Legion.

It was at this point I found the challenge I was looking for. I went online to Element games and had a look to see what was in stock and went away with a box of Chaos Terminators.
There are so many other great units in this roster. I decided to just grab the terminators for now to see how my style of painting would look on them.

These models were absolutely stunning and I really enjoyed building them. Now compared to Gildoren and The Fat Guy I don’t churn out painted models on a production line and I build my models in in parts, paint them in sub assemblies and glue them together (much to our disgust - FD).
The reason I do this is because I just find it easier to get in the nooks, cracks and hard to reach places with my brush. So after working through these termies let’s go through some of my painting tips for a good table top standard. These are all straight forward and easy to do.

THE BLACK ARMOUR
Firstly I sprayed the models using Chaos Black from Games Workshop. I made sure to give it a nice even coat that all over.
Once the models were sprayed I then gave the model and the sub assembly parts a dry brush of Abaddon Black all over. The reason for this is if I accidentally get another colour in the black armour I can paint over or correct mistakes and it will blend in. This is due to the Chaos Black spray believe it or not being the same shade as any of the black citadel paints, definitely not the Abaddon Black paint.
The armour is then edge highlighted using Dawn stone using the side of the brush with a steady hand. (I’m only truely steady after swatting a few hundred grobbi! - FD)
GOLD TRIM
This is one of my favourite techniques, and use it across a lot of my miniatures.
Dead easy, Like shooting Space Marines in a Rhino easy, I use a base of Balthazar Gold washed with Agrax Earthshade and highlighted on the edges with storm host silver… boom how do you like those apples? (Hopefully stewed and in custard- TtH).
RED CLOTH & HAIR
For the cloth and other red parts of the mode I use Mephiston Red, washed with Agrax cheat shade (you know it’s true! TtH), the 1 part Mephiston Red and 2 parts water to make it nice and smooth, the start to fill in the blocks of the cloth but leaving the shade in the folds. The edge highlights are added with More or less “neat” Wild Rider Red.
So now that is my unit is based and finished it’s time to move on to another box of Heretics and get this Legion back on track.
Thanks for reading and let the Galaxy Burn… FYI - I like mine medium rare all the way though.
