In this post, I'm going to select a few pieces of Sector Mechanicus terrain to make a small Thermic Plasma Power Hub.

I'll be using some Thermic Plasma Conduits and a Thermic Plasma Regulator - these are from their respective box sets. I'll also be using parts from the Forgebane box, namely some gantries and a boiler/stack combo.

Note there is a Handy Links Section included at the foot of this post.

All these parts are easily assembled but you may find it beneficial to hold off gluing some parts together until they are painted to avoid having to paint some parts that are a little awkward to access. I kept the gantry deck separate from the Thermic Plasma Regulator for this very reason, I also kept the stack separate from the boiler. The raised gantry and the conduits were all kept separate anyway so I can alter and expand these in future board layouts.

Thermic Plasma Conduits

Before I go into each element, I can get this part out of the way because everything was undercoated with Leadbelcher Spray.

I basecoated all the metallic areas with a lightly thinned coat of Leadbelcher. I then Basecoated selected pipes and expansion chambers with Brass Scorpion. Then I washed all these area with the brilliant Agrax Earthshade.

Following this, I lightly drybrushed all these areas with Necron Compound - this is a GW dry paint.. The plan here is to highlight the edges and parts of specific detail - I tend to apply this mainly to the Leadbelcher areas as I prefer the brass areas to look more 'maintained' (remember this is an Adeptus Mechanicus Facility!) but you could apply it here and have them look more weathered.

I followed this up with the plasma areas, I base coated the plasma coil windows and the smaller pipes with Teclis Blue. Then I highlighted the raised edges of the plasma coils and small pipes with Lothern Blue.

(Some of the conduits have little control boxes on them - I painted mine yellow with red switches as I really wanted to have some contrast, and these being highly visible is really useful in narrative games or RPGs, and the way we like to play Necromunda, but you can do whatever suits).

Thermic Plasma Regulator

Following the same basic steps as for the Conduits above.

The small gantry floor was basecoated with a thin layer of Leadbelcher, washed with Agrax Earthshade and then the raised part of this was painted with Aggaros Dunes contrast but take special care to avoid getting this on the recessed parts.

The railing on the gantry was basecoated Leadbelcher, the panels with Mephiston Red and a few areas with Brass Scorpion, these were washed with Agrax Earthshade. Pick out some of the panels on the regulator and basecoat these with Mephiston Red and apply a wash of Agrax Earthshade to these as well. Pick out some cables and basecoat them Teclis Blue then highlight with Lothern Blue

Largely I've done this to match my Adeptus Mechanicus Army (see the links at the end) however I would also highly recommend a restricted colour pallete on all projects, just for your sanity, and of course cohesion.

Like the conduits; the regulator has some control panels, switches and lights which are all pretty easy to pick up. The skull in the alcove was basecoated Mournfang Brown then highlighted Ushabti Bone.

The light above the skull was basecoated Abaddon Black, then layered up to White (taking care not to get any on the framework) then when this was dry, paint the nine sections over with watered down Bad Moon Yellow (again, avoid the frame work) Then when this was dry, I carefully picked out the raised edges of the framework with Leadbelcher.

The Laddered Gantry

The gantry itself was painted using the exact same technique detailed above as are the railings.

The supporting legs were also painted using the same techniques as above. The gauges received a thin layer of White for the background - tidy this up with Abaddon black around the inside and on the needle and needle-mechanism and when dry, paint the needle Evil Sunz Scarlet and the other black areas with Leadbelcher.

The ladder is simply base-coated with a thin layer of Leadbelcher washed with Agrax Earthshade and lightly drybrushed with Necron Compound. You can find all the links for these items at the end of this post.

Boiler/Stack

Nothing different here folks! I like to keep it simple so the boiler/stack was was painted in exactly the same way as the other parts.

...and finally!

I added a couple of transfers from the Mechanicus transfer sheets and sprayed all the components with a matt varnish to protect and tone down the colour a little..

That's us - we have a nice little Plasma Power Hub that we can use as a stand alone terrain piece or add further components to later on to make a larger feature. You can find the links for all the items here in the "Handy Links Section" at the end of this post.

"Are we safe in amongst all these highly plasma-charged pipes?"

Last words of servitor maintenance crew member XN-V02 before 'the incident'!

All praise the Omnissiah!
