Chapter 12 Serberys Raiders

Welcome to Mars!

A fast attack choice for the Adeptus Mechanicus, the Serberys Raiders join the Forces of Mars.

With a pre-battle move and ability to snipe characters; these cavalry models are very useful, they also look great. I especially like the rider with the binoculars, "gonna spot ya, gonna snipe ya, then run away!" - brilliant!

I actually made a mistake painting their robes as the material over their legs should have been the inside of the robes (Baneblade Brown highlighted with Ushabti Bone) but it looks fine in red and makes the transfers I wanted stand out more than it would have on the brown.

Assembly

Just follow the assembly guide. (You can also assemble Serberys Sulphurhounds from the same boxset). One of the models has an option for either an Alpha or a third Raider.

Undercoat

I looked at my army colour scheme and stuck to the same palette. The riders would be mainly red so I undercoated them with Mephiston Red spray. The mounts were sprayed with Leadbelcher spray as they have a lot of areas that I'd want to be metallics and the bases with Army Painter Fur Brown.

Painting

I keep the rider, mount and base separate to allow access to those hard to reach areas.

First up was painting the base with Doombull Brown - I did not thin this layer down as I wanted a good coating before applying Martian Ironearth later. I then glue on the small stones.

Paint all the metallic areas with a thinned down coat of Leadbelcher. You may need a second coat of this on the riders to stop the red undercoat showing through. Pick out some of the metallic areas with Brass Scorpion then apply a wash of Nuln Oil to all the painted metallic areas.

Paint the red areas with a thin coat of Mephiston Red then wash these areas with Carroburg Crimson. Apply another thin layer of Mephiston Red over the raised areas then highlight the ridges and most

Paint all the pouches, leather areas and rifle with Rhinox Hide. Paint the raised areas with Mournfang Brown then was with Agrax Earthshade.

The blue areas were painted with Teclis Blue and highlighted with Lothern Blue. Lothern blue was also used directly to paint the eye lenses.

I then picked out some lights, gauges and switches with various bright colours - you can vary it but I used Evil Sunz Scarlett, Snot Green (old paint) and Skull White (for the dials on the gauges).

That's basically it, just apply the transfers you want then apply a light spray of matt varnish.

I've picked up another box of these lads; still in two minds as to which variant to build - add to the Raiders or form the Sulphurhound unit, hmmm? Might have to purchase a third box and do both!

Having reached Welcome to Mars Chapter 12, I'd thought you might like to see the army as a whole, so orders were issued to the forces of Mars and House Taranis to assemble on the martian parade ground for a group shot!
