The Cricket Club Knights - Prologue

The Premise

Way back before many of you Beardlings where even a glint in your fathers eye, an epic adventure was told in the hallowed pages of White Dwarf 218-223 (UK issues), under the venerable Editor "Fat Bloke" four members of the studio team underwent a challenge. That challenge was a monthly buy-build-paint-game challenge called the Tale of 4 Gamers. The article series is a seminal series for White Dwarf and was copied in multiple systems throughout the life of the magazine, indeed right up until recently. I do suggest you look it up. Its worth a wee google search.

In the original series monthly purchases where restrained by a £25 financial limit, with the slow grow of the armies then reported within the monthly article series. It was hugely popular, We saw grudges develop between generals, different styles of painting and narrative elements in the games that were eluded to in articles, but more easily conveyed in an series of articles like this.

Warhammer world has been hit with the pandemic, its Lockdown for England till December the 1st.

The Rules

So I will be acting as Chronicler for the duration of this series. As Mike summarises the rules in his Post on his blog Tale Of Lockdown Painters Part 1 I have re-posted this below.

The rules were simple.

Small models – 1 point

Large models – 10 points

Characters – 5 points

Post pictures every Friday to the group(s) with points totalled monthly.

(generally the points above are interpreted as a guideline)

That’s it. Nothing complicated. It runs until we get bored or we can get games on a regular basis again. What constitutes a small, large or character model? It’s pretty much up to the painter but since we’re only playing for magical internet points it doesn’t really matter. The point is to get us painting. Any scenery or random bits and bobs, that can be given X points, decided by the group.

The Others

So within the "Lockdown Gamers" we have everyone from my Cricket Club Night local club in Harrow (North West London), you may know some of these characters from the Paintbrush Heroes Blog that I was part of. There is a wide variety of games and projects on the go between this group and a wide variety of painting styles. Some of us will be hard pressed to complete a handful of minis within a month, while others are going to crank out whole armies in this time. The important thing is we are making progress however... That said you ay see some posts by The Tabletop Hobbit and Gildoren pop in here too, and my good friend Mike who has his own blog and has roped his other gaming group in too.

I would like to draw your attention to a series running for the TALES FROM THE TABLETOP blog written by my good friend Mike, who is a member of our little Cricket Club Nights group in Harrow, he has gone and roped in a second group within his local hobby group up around Ayelsbury (I like the sound of that town! - FatDwarf), here you can see an even wider range of miniatures painted up, and I would heartily suggest you head on over there for a good read my Beardlings, he's got one hell of a book of grudges has Mike...

I have referenced his own Lockdown Painter Series Below:

my Dogs of War (i know hes technically not DoW) will also see a bit of paint.

I'm also looking to clear a few Imperial Units

I might even get to my 2014 Space Hulk collection (including the 3 extra mission sets)

Bretonnian Scenery Collection should get finished, for my Bretonnian themed boards.

The Alcatani Fellowship might finally get finished.

There may also be a few bits and pieces turn up here and there unexpectedly.
