Tomb Kings - Tomb King in a Chariot

When the Tomb King goes to war he likes to travel in style.

Build
The bulk of the model is a basic chariot that has a couple of easily modeled conversions. The blade on the front has been replaced with the blade from a Sepulchral Stalker and a cobra emblem front the Necrosphinx/Warsphinx box set added to the top of the yoke.

The Tomb King also comes from the Warsphinx box. This model is set in a pose where his right leg is at angle as if he is stepping up. If you are using him in the Warsphinx or on foot then this is no problem as there are parts on the sprue that accommodate this. I simply had him rest his foot on a skull. It's not usually visible but it was an easy fix and nicely in theme for a Tomb King!

When I want to get painting something quickly - I go to my Tomb Kings!

Paint
Spray brown undercoat the entire model....and apply a thin layer of black to all metal parts. I used Mournfang Brown from Games Workshop but something similar and cheaper should be available from Army Painter, or the Plastic Soldier Company try Element Games, Wayland Games or Goblin Gaming for a great selection. I have banners below for quick ref.

The skeleton steeds are painted with Citadel bleached bone, nothing fancy, usually two coats but depends how thin your paint is.

The rest of the model is straightforward just choose your colour scheme and off you go. I’ve always been keen on a light blue / azure to contrast with the bones and red brown earthy tones.
The base is also very simple. Just paint on a layer of PVA and apply your sand mix, no fiddly dry brushing necessary. I've painted the edge of the base in a suitably 'deserty' colour...in this instance a very, very old orc brown citadel paint.(from the old 80s round pots..)

The Tomb King skin is also a very old citadel paint - rotting flesh.

I wanted my Tomb Kings to look like they've been parked in the desert for a lengthy period of time so I ink washed the gold with the trusty old Agrax Earthshade to tone it down a little, taking some of the bling away.

Top Tip: Citadel Paint Range is much cheaper from these guys below..
